Letters
from middle school students – in their own words: Dear
Corn Island Storytelling: Thank
you so much for singing and telling us stories! It was a bunch of fun!! I
loved all of the humor that all the story tellers had. I have to say that
I did learned something from all of the stories. I had a great time at the
storytelling pagent. I liked how the tellers moved around and kept us part
of the play. One of my classmates was really in to it it really looked
like he was discoing to music. About
John Gage: John
Gauge let us sing along with him. John, you did a great job on the guitar.
Did you know I play the guitar in a band me and my friends are in? About
Graham Shelby: My
favorite story was Graham Shelby he was hilarious when he said apples and
in Japan it meant poop. And…the one about the Japanese kinder gardeners.
It kept me listening. I liked how you tell your storys and I liked the
Japinese dude. Because he was the funniest because he could speake
Japinese and he when he said that little kids were naked. Then how he did
his acting and his little Bannana kid.
And the bad kid and the hose with the water when he stept on the
hose and wated for him to look in it. Soooooo funny. I can totally
relate. Not like I’ve taught preschooler in Japan, but I have been
whacked with styrofoam kickboards by little kids! About
Mary Hamilton: I
also like the troll women I liked the violence in it. The violence in the
troll story was intence when the troll poped off the head of the little
girls and the goat.
[It was] a pretty violent story, but is a good enough teller to
keep the children from getting out of hand, I liked that. She
was good with using a “troll” voice. Mary was also descriptive. I
could see the rooms filled with gold and jewels! About
Zoe Speaks: I
thought it was cool to see Mitch Barrett pulled some kids from the front.
The kid who was “granny” was pretty funny too. When Carla and Mitch
played bluegrass music it was very hard to stop clapping the beat. I
enjoyed the banjo…it is my favorite instrument. My favorite part of all
though was when Mitch had us close our eyes, while he played the Japanese
flute, and imagine ourselves in the woods and imagine what was happening.
I really liked this part because I am an avid writer and this activity
helped me
come up with a setting (for the book in which I am writing) that I
have been trying to create for a long time. Carla, I’ve NEVER seen
someone teat up a banjo like that! Your fingers FLEW! Good job! About
Madafo Lloyd Wilson: I
also liked the hyena guy (the bongo dude) too. I liked his accent a whole
bunch I kinda wish I could talk like him. Because I liked how he did the
hyena voice and how he played the thumb peniano. …how talented he was
with his thumb piano. I also liked his voice. Like when he was making the
sound of the hyenas. For some reason, it reminded me of the the movie, The
Lion King. Also, the sound effects were amazing!
He was very spiritual too. Well,
thank you again for a wonderful time and the seats were a little
uncomfortable and it was a little on the cold side, but other then that I
had a REALLY
GREAT time because the storys were new to me and I loved it when
there was a interesting or funny story is told because it really
captivates me. I wish it could have been outside though, but it was all
good. [It gave] me something enjoyable to do, rather than sit in a
classroom. The
show was wondrous and well-done, thank you. |
